The Devil Wears Prada

There was something about The Devil Wears Prada that caught my interest when I first saw the trailer. I couldn't quite place it. While I still can't decipher what about the trailer drew me in, despite the clear focus on female viewers and the criticism of my friends towards the film, I can tell you that I give the movie a solid four stars out of five.

This was decidedly not a chick flick. No major romance, a pleasant absence of preposterous circumstances. This was a well-filmed story of a character losing her true self in the pursuit of success. The acting was wonderful across the board, from Meryl Streep's Oscar-nominated performance and Anne Hathaway's sincerity to the peripheral characters and supporting cast. There were several excellent camera shots including an extended slow zoom tightening through an entire office.

Nothing ground-breaking, yet entertaining and artful in its way.
